So I had recently changed the layout of my bedroom so now have more space were my desk it to hopefully make it easier to create animations!
I wanted to make some animations but I didn't want to spend ages and ages on one so though I would start making shorter Stop motions of about 10 seconds partly for fun but also to improve and try new things with out having to commit to a longer time consuming animation.
I did this one fist and made it quite quickly it turned out okay but the lighting was terrible and perhaps it wasn't as smooth as it could have been considering it was only very short however this was due to having to work backward and cut the stem of which did go aw well as id hoped.
I then did this one and I prefer it a lot! the lighting was more consistent and more frames were taken giving it an overall better look.
However practice makes perfect and I plan to make many more short animations!
So bit of a side not I recently watched Paranorman after being told the making of book was really good however I couldn't read the book with out watching the film! but the book came before I watched the film and I could resist a sneaky look!
I really enjoyed the film and the book gives a really good insight in to the making of and really does help you appreciate all the work that goes into a stop motion!
Highly recommend this book!!!
Sneak peak...Such a crowded desk ...
The Boxtrolls is another Stop motion film made by the same company and I came across it a while ago whilst doing my Media coursework and I am pretty sure I wrote about it in the exam! However It came out a while ago and I still haven't watched and but McDonalds released toys for it which was very exciting and I got strange looks going in there asking just for the toy! however they are super cool and I now have two of them.....
Fragile!!
Wheels- on a unicycle!!
Wheels is my favourite as I can unicycle!
And I will most likely watch the film when it comes out on DVD!!
So....I am the worst person at updating things...I have no excuse as I have a new laptop were all the keys work and USB's can be plugged it!, which is far to exciting during the summer I went Austria got my A-level results had a moment of what on earth am I actually going.. applied through clearing wasn't successful BUT kinda know what I am going to do now so that makes me a bit happier!
I did very little in terms of animation in the summer I did however start putting together a portfolio which is always a good thing to have!
At the end of the summer holiday I brought a pj's Film club box click here for more information! was very exciting waiting for it to come who doesn't love post! Anyway it came with a make your own zombie film kit which funnily enough I actually got one for Christmas but didn't get round to using it!
I obviously decided to make an a animation with the content, however I wanted to used everything the box came with including the box!
So I made a plan!!
I made some stamps for the box...
Another stamp...
And another stamp ... space is a long way away you know!
The next part for the zombies needed a makeshift 3D living room, so I used some mount board for the sides but naturally needed wall paper and flooring however it is hard to get wallpaper with a small enough pattern so I settled for some wrapping paper although my forward planning didn't go as far as what colour the furniture would need to be to be seen. I also ended up with wooden style flooring which came in sheets from the 99p shop as I remembered seeing them quite some time ago! So let the building commence... I rather enjoyed it!
Flat packed...
The rather fetching wallpaper and seeing what shade of blue was best..
I though id go for a cartoony look so wanted 3D looking furniture that was flat and I soon discovered It was harder than I though to draw a flat 3D sofa!
weren't too bad but jus didn't look right...
The final one!
Lots of tape to keep it together... I need to invest in better tape!
The final set!
I am quite pleased with the final look of the living room and the plot of the film however I wish Id taken more frames however its a learning curve and one of the few times I used actual 3D things!
Wow Besty was a long time ago...
I entered 4 film in the end I tried all three of the 48 hr comps and I entered the main one.
The set out was different this year and there was the overall winner and Mini-Besty were given out. This was what let it down as I don't think you cant really judge a film made in 48 hours with one made in a few weeks. Oh well.. I Think I came away with my 'search for something cold' and 'Australia-compass' being nominated and I remember Hansel and Gretel being shown.,which was pretty good considering 10 films were nominated and two of them were mine so I have to say I am pretty chuffed with that. I also go a Mini-Besty as pictured below!!
why do exams get in the way... but they are over and I have had this post saved in drafts for ages
I eventually got the faulty part replaced, it took about a month but it is here :) I finally put the armature together with loclite. was very exciting.
Okay maybe not but two parcels in two days :) (although it does help if you order stuff) I ordered a armature ,magnetic tie down system and miliput from Animation tool kit I also spend the rest of my Amazon voucher on the animators survival guide. Pictures below...
POST!!!!
So shiny and new!
Bigger then expected
It is quite big!!
A sneak
peak of the inside!
The book is so pretty, I can't wait too read it properly but that will have to wait as its 36ish days till my first exam!
I also got an armature as I wanted to have a go at 3D and more realistic animating for quite a while
It comes in a film canister!
I decided to put it together because it was too exciting to wait till after my exams! so I started by laying out all the pieces.
That is a lot of pieces!
The master plan!
I put most of it together and I found out one of the pieces was missing the threaded bit in the hole so could finish putting together yet... perhaps something is telling me to to more revising?
so I will post a proper picture when its done!
I thought it was about time to address Some of the basic principles of animation. There are 12 basic principles of animation. Such as timing, In the other animations I have made I haven't thought about real life timings I just decided what to do and did it with little planning. However timing is essential to make an animation more engaging. so I have had a go at..
squash and stretch -ball bouncing
ball drop
ball rolling
ball down stairs
balloon down stairs/falling from sky
car accelerating/stopping.
I know that some of these are far from perfect however I am quite pleased with how some of these turned out for my first attempt. practise makes perfect. (384 frames.)
Okay so as of today it has been a whole year since I uploaded my first stop motion animation to you tube. In that time I have.
Learnt a lot.
learnt a lot more...
had over 8,650 views
taken over 13,788 photos (yes I did add them up)
entered a few competitions
won a very nice camera :)
Got a few animation books
Realised that I have a passion for stop motion animation and it is what I would like to do in the future.
I felt this was a good excuse to by myself an armature! (now to wait for the postman)
also I hope to apply to university in 2015 to study animation so for the year in-between I hope to get a job and improve my skills (maybe move away from paper animation) and portfolio but who knows anything can happen.
It is the 3rd 48 hour of the year for Gads Hills Besty Award. the theme this time is a 1 minute film "to get something of your chest". I have to be honest I was totally stuck for ideas. However as an avid tea drinker I often find my self in a conversation with others about how to make a cup of tea the correct way. milk in first or not??
So I decided to make this based on the conmen arguments of milk in first or not.
I would like to make it cleat that although it is a 48 hour competition and that there is only 48 hours in which to make the film and up load it in that,I have constantly found my self not making it till at least the next morning after the theme being released, on top of that this time I went to school for a good 6 hours for revision and had an hour long driving lesson and I couldn't finish it the next morning as I had a course to go to. This was a lot of time I could have been making an animation in.
I like the idea I had. this was a very quick storyboard I drew.
It is on its side but you get the idea it was very quick and brief and a fair bit never happened!!
After getting back from my driving lesson I spent a good 3 hours making the card props and a silly amount of time working out how to draw a milk carton that was open.
A happy tea cup!!!
The wise piece of cake called Victoria
I think all milk carton should have a cow print patten!!
However I do quite like them and there is no point in spending ages in animated something that doesnt look quite right and Im not 100% happy with!!
I proceceded to take the photoes in an 1hr and a half. I could have taken longer and make it oother but I only had a minute to fill and it wass getting late.
I had to rehoot the entier water pouring scene as i left my sisors in the Shot!!!
I wont be making that mistake in a hurry!!!
In the final piece some of the word move too quick to read and I know that, it is really annoying!!!!
however being positive I am really pleased with the tissue paper for the pouring of the water and the milk I think it was really effective and i will be trying it again at Some point!!!
I also really like the being bit with it bieng like a search on a computer
After seeing a few adverts were it gave the impression of being cut out of paper and being a 3D pop-up book I decided I wanted to have a go at making a stop motion this way. As I mentioned before I find it very difficult making an animation with out I time limit. So I decided I would do it for my AS media Studies production piece.
I soon learn that it is not a good Idea to change what brief you are doing after working on the first one for nearly 3 months.
I choice three counties to make it based on and wanted to make three, 40 second long animations. I soon found found this was near impossible with the amount of time I took to make the book it self and to actually take the pictures. I decided to just do Australia and England as I never got around to making the last three pages.
I came across may difficulties:
having the camera at the correct hight as the pages open
Having all the page in shot
doing a smooth panning shot with out a devise to have it one
blue tack will not always stop gravity from making your fish fall out of the sky
you cannot rub out pen so think care fall about the order the pictures will be taken in
lighting will forever be a problem when working on a tiny desk in my room
spelling a big problem as it has happens twice now I still do not know how I managed to spell edition addition and not notice whilst staring at if for a good 10 minutes.
Time...
to name a few however after regretting choosing to do a project as complicated as it was in terms of planning (I will attach my simple storyboards at some point) and time wise I was quite pleased with how it turned out.
some stills
Australia
England
I have to say I very much prefer The finished look of Australia because I spent more time on it and had more of an Idea what was going to happen. However I do like the interaction between animation and animator with the cup of tea.
Here is the finished animations my sister kindly done the recording for the voice.
However it is all done and I can certainly say that I have learnt a lot from it!!!
