HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I started making stop motions about 9 months ago. Since then I have made 34 animations.
I have won:
Thank you film award
Besty 2013 48 hour competition
Besty 2013 best animation
NPL best physics film ( nomination 13 times!!!)
and have entered Besty 2014 normal and 48 hour.

I also complete a personally set challenge of a stop motion a day in the run up to Christmas.
I have tried various different styles. I have learnt a lot. Some things have worked and many haven't however I hope to learn from these and make many more interesting and challenging stop motions.

I thought it was only fitting to end the year with a stop motion. I have tried using liquid chalk even though the board moved I am really happy with the consistent lighting.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014.

Christmas!!!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS
Its done its finally over 25 animation in 25 days!!!

The facts

  • 25 animations in 25 days
  • 6916 photos
  • 847 seconds

As it is the 25th of December I decided to do the traditional thing of the Christmas nativity in 40 seconds mind you.

I had to sacrifice some grey origami paper for a donkey!!

Christmas Count Down

I never like to set my self easy tasks so I decided to a count down to Christmas a but like an animated advent calendar. This was a great Idea if I hadn't decided to do this on the last day of November. This meant I had to make an animation a day so I could post the next days in the morning. This was not an easy task. I had to come up with an idea of what could happen and make and take the photos all whist going to school.
There were days I regretted it and didn't want to make one and there were night I stayed up till a silly time until it was finished. but it was all worth it in the end I think....
there were also good points

  • many people enjoyed watching them each day
  • I learnt to work to a deadline
  • Some of them were better animated as time went on
  • we spent the best part of a biology lesson watching them all!!
so here they are

And I think that is enough for this post :)

Besty 2014- Hansel and Gretel - update in progress

Thank you film award!!

I found out about this competition only a week and a bit before the deadline. It was run by the university of Birmingham and explored the idea of gratitude.

I decided I would do it for Girl Guiding volunteers as I know how much work and time they put it do running great activities.

I got an email saying it had been short listed and that I was invited to the Prince Charles cinema in Leicester square  to view the films and find out who had won.

Waiting to find out who has won was very scary.
I ended up winning the secondary school category but the runner up was extremely good it was very close.

Not only did I get a very nice clapper board trophy I was also lucky to win a Cannon 1100D camera!! which I now use for my animation.

(820 photos)

Along with the winner in other areas and the runner ups I was invited to a film workshop, it was aimed at  normal films but he did show some stop motions and the making of them..

At the end I was presented with a book from Lee. Thank you lee!!!. All about stop motions how to create and share stop motions it by Melvyn Ternan. It is extremely good and packed with ideas and helpful tips. It also gives QR code to animations so you can view them and also gives some information about the making or where the ideas came from. I would highly recommend it to any one that would like more information on making a stop motion or people that are already interested.

1st Stop motion

Some stills were you can see  were the flash was on! but oh well

My favourite scene!!

The pains of spelling thing wrong and trying to fix them!

The above was my first ever stop motion,I had no plan, I had just made a tea and got a biscuit when I decided this would be a good start for a stop motion. I had watched a fair few and thought it looked really cool and something I would like to try. This ended up winning Best animation at Gads Hill School Betsy Award. (529 photos)

This was the second done as part of a 48 hour competition an email was sent out with the start time and then at that time a second email sent out with the title. We then had 48 hours in which to plan, make and up load the video to you tube. It was great fun and I uploaded it with Some time to spare. This animation won the 48 Hour sections and I got a very nice trophy!!

Needless to say this fuelled my enthusiasm for making stop motions.
