Creativity and Colours...

Nothing like a good deal... I managed to get a 24 pack of brand new crayola's for £1.99 and the fine liners for £2.50.
And a 24 pack of sharpies for £6.99

So With all these colours and summer holidays I now have no excuse not to do more animation related creativity!

Books and Birthdays...

I think my friend know me too well. One of my amazing friends got me this book

Different from the rest of the books I have which is good and there seems to be Some fun stuff to try out.!
My animation book collection!
A different friend got me a rather snazzy director chair complete with my nickname on the back...

I am just going to sit on my chair and read my book...

Besty 2014

Wow Besty was a long time ago...
I entered 4 film in the end I tried all three of the 48 hr comps and I entered the main one.

The set out was different this year and there was the overall winner and Mini-Besty were given out. This was what let it down as I don't think you cant really judge a film made in 48 hours with one made in a few weeks. Oh well.. I Think I came away with my 'search for something cold' and 'Australia-compass' being nominated and I remember Hansel and Gretel being shown.,which was pretty good considering 10 films were nominated and two of them were mine so I have to say I am pretty chuffed with that. I also go a Mini-Besty as pictured below!!

It's been a while...

why do exams get in the way... but they are over and I have had this post saved in drafts for ages
I eventually got the faulty part replaced, it took about a month but it is here :) I finally put the armature together with loclite. was very exciting.
Here's a dodgy picture!

It must be Christmas or something...

Okay maybe not but two parcels in two days :) (although it does help if you order stuff) I ordered a armature ,magnetic tie down system and miliput from Animation tool kit I also spend the rest of my Amazon voucher on the animators survival guide. Pictures below...
POST!!!!

So shiny and new!

Bigger then expected

It is quite big!!

A sneak
 peak of the inside!

The book is so pretty, I can't wait too read it properly but that will have to wait as its 36ish days till my first exam!

I also got an armature as I wanted to have a go at 3D and more realistic animating for quite a while
It comes in a film canister!

I decided to put it together because it was too exciting to wait till after my exams! so I started by laying out all the pieces.

That is a lot of pieces!

The master plan!

I put most of it together and I found out one of the pieces was missing the threaded bit in the hole so  could finish putting together yet... perhaps something is telling me to to more revising?
so I will post a proper picture when its done!

Timing practice

I thought it was about time to address Some of the basic principles of animation. There are 12 basic principles of animation. Such as timing, In the other animations I have made I haven't thought about real life timings I just decided what to do and did it with little planning. However timing is essential to make an animation more engaging.  so I have had a go at..

  • squash and stretch -ball bouncing
  • ball drop
  • ball rolling
  • ball down stairs
  • balloon down stairs/falling from sky
  • car accelerating/stopping.
I know that some of these are far from perfect however I am quite pleased with how some of these turned out for my first attempt. practise makes perfect. (384 frames.)

some stills

A floating balloon!!

It looks like he is going to fall of the step!!!

mid bounce

squashed ball

all laid out ready for shooting!!!

Its been a year!!!

Okay so as of today it has been a whole year since I uploaded my first stop motion animation to you tube. In that time I have.

  • Learnt a lot.
  • learnt a lot more...
  • had over 8,650 views
  • taken over 13,788 photos  (yes I did add them up)
  • entered a few competitions
  • won a very nice camera :)
  • Got a few animation books
  • Realised that I have a passion for stop motion animation  and it  is what I would like to do in the future.
I felt this was a good excuse to by myself an armature! (now to wait for the postman)

also I hope to apply to university in 2015 to study animation  so for the year in-between I hope to get a job and improve my skills (maybe move away from paper animation) and portfolio but who knows anything can happen.
